A Better Digital Workflow for Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures play a critical role in patient care following extractions. While they are designed to be temporary, their accuracy and fit have a direct impact on healing, comfort, and the success of the final prosthesis.

To address challenges like improper fit or excessive chair time cutting on immediate dentures, Oral Arts Dental Labs have implemented a new digital workflow for immediate dentures.

Why We Changed the Process

While these appliances are intended to be worn short-term, inaccuracies at this stage can complicate healing, require additional adjustments, and create unnecessary delays when transitioning to the final denture.

Our goal was to create a process that:

  • Improves predictability
  • Reduces remakes and adjustments
  • Simplifies the dentist’s workflow
  • Sets up the final denture for greater long-term success

The result is a fully digital approach that supports both the temporary and final phases of treatment with products that we are confident in.

TrueFit As An Immediate Denture: Your Step-By-Step

TrueFit Immediate Dentures are digitally designed and manufactured temporary dentures intended to be worn immediately following extractions.

With every case in need of an immediate denture, the dentist receives:

  • The TrueFit immediate denture (the appliance worn by the patient post-surgery)
  • A prototype of the same appliance (do not open or discard!)

Patients typically wear the TrueFit denture for 3–6 months, allowing time for complete healing and tissue stabilization.

Once healing is complete, the dentist takes an impression inside the prototype, capturing the healed anatomy accurately and efficiently. That impression is then sent to Oral Arts Dental Laboratories for fabrication of the final denture—either another TrueFit or a traditional denture, depending on the case.

Key Benefits of the TrueFit Digital Workflow

1. Better Fit for the Final Denture

Because the final impression is taken after healing—and over a known, controlled model—this workflow increases the likelihood of a more accurate and comfortable final prosthesis.

This process allows:

  • Better visualization of undercuts
  • More precise adaptation to healed tissue
  • Fewer surprises during final delivery

The result is a final denture that fits more predictably and comfortably for the patient.

2. Seamless Turnaround

Our digital workflow streamlines production and communication, resulting in:

  • Consistent 5-day turnaround time in the lab
  • Less back-and-forth on materials and impression techniques
  • Faster progression from healing to final prosthesis

By simplifying what the lab needs to receive, dentists can move cases forward with greater confidence and less administrative effort.

3. Easier Transition from Temporary to Final

Traditional workflows often require the patient to wait for the lab to fabricate a model before proceeding—leaving them without any dentures for a few days. Or, they would have to restart the process from scratch.

With our workflow:

  • The extra prototype is already provided
  • The dentist controls the final impression timing
  • Fewer steps mean fewer mistakes

Bite registration and tooth setup is already established when the wash is taken inside the prototype. This creates a smoother, more efficient transition from the immediate denture to the final restoration.

Designed for Predictability—Built for Dentists

TrueFit Immediate Dentures are not about reinventing dentures—they’re about refining the process so dentists can deliver better outcomes with less friction.

By combining digital design, predictable manufacturing, and a simplified temp-to-final workflow, TrueFit helps:

  • Improve consistency
  • Reduce chair time
  • Support better long-term results for patients

If you have questions about the integration of TrueFit into your immediate denture cases or want to discuss any case specifics with us, our team at Oral Arts Dental Labs is here to help.
